Philippines First Automated Election Result

It's done. We wrote a history. And as for me, we had done it great! Yes there were problems that we had encountered,  but over-all, the election was the best one as I could have recalled. All the hitches, protests, doubts, and questions are all gone now.

Well there are still very skeptical and questioning the integrity of the PCOS machine. It's just okay. We are in a democratic nation. Everyone are free  and are entitled to their own beliefs and opinion.

And so I am.

Really fast huh!  Imagine, just a day after, many local officials had been proclaimed. And more than 75% in the national level had already been counted. The turn out of our first automated election now transformed our electoral process.

Any Protests? Just a day after, many candidates even up to the presidential race had already conceded. Before, protests will surely flood to the COMELEC.  Gone are the election scenarios that there are no losers in the Philippine election but only cheated!

Cheating is now very hard in counting and canvassing because of the fast transition of election. Unlike our former method, different protests were filed even during the counting in the precinct level. And more during the municipal, provincial and regional canvasing.

Safe-free.The risk of the teacher's life in transporting the returns had been gone for the counting is so fast and it will just be transmitted. And once transmitted, the bad elements can't do anything. And they know it.

Our first automated election is generally a peaceful one. Ahoy... people are longing this for a long time. Right after the last voter, we can already have the counts and can be tallied in the same time. Yes, there were reports of firing of guns and blasting of grenades. But those were isolated cases, places that are really hot spots. And the numbers of these incidents are the least from previous elections.

Our voices are heard. We can claim that we will have leaders truly chosen by the people. Winners may or may not fulfill their mandates. We can not say. But at least we had the nation's choice. It's a our big first step toward a better nation.

I can't explain my feelings. I can't find the exact word to express it. I think the patriotic in me is the one celebrating. Ha ha. It's great to be free to the elections of the past!

Diz Iz It!

I did it! It's not bad at all (at least in our place).  I had been lucky to be the first ones who entered the precinct where I was assigned for I was already there as early as 6:00am. I had shaded my votes.  I just hope that the people I voted for do not turn out to be idiots, thieves or performers... EHEHE.

Today, we are choosing the men and women who will demand later on to call them “Your Honor”. We are casting our votes of whom to send to in Congress. In Senate. In Malacanang. You?  Why did you vote for them?

And who will be the winners? All of the candidates want to believe they are winners. Watch them struggle over wanting to be in power. No one will accept defeat. So what else is new? Some will take advantage of the chaos rising in the precincts and so will begin to rally forces to the streets.

That's why the result of this election will once and for all tell us if  Comelec are reliable. But as the problems still arises as of last night news update, they should have installed the automation systems in phases. They should have chosen polls in major cities and towns first instead of forcing these machines to work in all precincts where operators and voters aren’t ready to handle them yet.

It seems to me that our country is not yet ready for the fully automated election. There are remote places where electricity is not yet available. Some of the PCOS had to be carried for kilometers of just walking to reach the precinct.  Many places are risk-high as our police men had to step back as the NPA were burning the school building where the PCOS machine are stored.

As I was watching the news, many are still anxious for the outcome of the election and the validity of the results. Machines were still malfunctioning in different precincts. The trial result still didn't tally.

I bet there will be protests of cheating. Surely, there will provinces in which the tabulation and canvassing will be open to questions.

But still hope to a peaceful turnout of election in general.

What To Do On Election Day

Nothing can stop now for the May 10 first ever automated election in the country. The Supreme Court had squashed all the petitions to stop the automated election on Monday and  go back to manual voting system or at least postpone it for at least two weeks.

We will be  making a history when we go to the precinct  and make our votes. And since this is the first time the country is conducting automated elections, it would be a good idea to make a list of simple tips of dos and don’ts.

 On Election Day

1. Be cool! Wear loose and  comfortable clothing to the polling place. Not only the atmosphere will be hot but the temperature as well. And imagine those thousands of people will gonna flock to vote in that day.

2. Early bird catches the early worm. Go out early. Voting time is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a 1000 voters or more in every clustered precincts. So expect long lines may be formed towards the latter part of the day. A long line coupled with the sweltering heat that we have all been experiencing the past few weeks may discourage other  from voting.

3. Make a full egg-shape oval. You will be provided a ballot, a ballot secrecy folder and marking pen by one of  the Board of Election Inspectors (and checked if official ballot is free from all markings and stains and not been deformed in any way). FULLY shade the oval beside the name of the candidates of your choice.

3. Undervote is yes but no-no for the overvote. Be sure to understand that the machine will not count your votes in the senatorial spot if you shade more than 12. Eleven is accepted but 13 is not. One for president and not two or your vote for the president will not be counted.

4. Cheating?  Okay, “kodigo” is a not allowed in school. But it is highly encouraged in this election (with that meter or more long ballot which we will be using).  Indeed, you should already write the names of the candidates best for you before you head for the polling place.

5. Diz iz it! After accomplishing the ballot, the voter shall then insert it inside the PCOS machine. Be careful that the ballot is not CRUMPLED, STAINED OR DEFACED in any major way. The voter should make sure that the ballot is successfully accepted by the machine. The ballot will then be dropped in a translucent ballot box.

6. Not once, twice and thrice. You are allowed to insert your ballots four times if ever the machine does not accept your ballot. So maximize it. If at first it is not been accepted, try the other end of the ballot to be inserted first. If again not, flip it and try again. Do not insert your ballot twice using the same end for you have only 4 times to do it. If after the fourth you fail, it will not be counted anymore but you can file a protest and the BEI will take it as a note to their minutes.

7. You will be marked. The BEI chairman shall then apply indelible ink on the right forefinger nail of the voter. You shall then affix your thumb on the space beside your name in the book of registered voters.

After voting, go home. It is better to leave the place and stay at home. Be in a safer place. We can never say what will gonna happen. The tension during this occasion is might get high especially as the hours pass by.

Besides, it will ease the number of people there. The heat. The sweat. And the smell!

Hope for a peaceful and honest election.

May 10 Will Push Through

There will be no postponement. On May 10, we will make a historic election in which we will vote by using machines for the first time.

We will be using more than 82,000 automated machines across the country.  The results will be expected to be known in just two days. Unlike under the former hand-counted manual system it will took several weeks.

But 76,000 of the PCOS machine are found to have defective cards. And fear is rising up that if these machines fail, would trigger a big chaos.

OTHER PROBLEMS

electricity supply problems
data transmission complications
reliability of the machines
the potentiality  of the system to be manipulated

If machines break down or information cannot be transmitted, there may be no clear winner within 48 hours as planned and what will happen?

Noynoy calls for a manual election.

Macalintal resigned as GMA's election lawyer because he think we have to postpone election, and he didn't get it.

COMELEC must consider all possible means. If they didn't deliver good enough after months of preparation how can they if there's only days left.

Unless of course there's something we didn't know!
I don't know...

Noynoy Aquino for President

We are now in the final campaign period for our first-ever automated election on May 10. With exactly 6 days before the election, candidates have stepped up attacks against rival candidates.

2010 presidential election can be considered as the dirtiest in our history in terms of character assassination.  Noynoy got the most of this black propaganda because of his consistent lead in all of the major poll surveys.

One reason might be because there are no issues to pin him down, except his lack of experience.

Issues against him were raised like he can be pushed around and easily swayed or manipulated by people around him.  They try to make the public fear of Kris making decision over Noynoy.
They question Noynoy's motive of running the presidential election that they had even attacked him of being the son of Ninoy and Cory.

They raised the question about his mental health by giving fake psychological  certificate.  And they even sending text messages saying Noynoy had an epileptic seizure.

But fortunately, these vicious attacks are working for, not against, him. Seems that people have become even more sympathetic. Noynoy handled their campaign  strategy good enough as he remain consistent on top over the others.

I wonder what would they next?

It's Noynoy Versus Erap!

With the election fast approaching, the presidential race is going tighter and closer. With the latest surveys, it's likely to be Noynoy Aquino versus Erap Estrada. While Noynoy is enjoying the lead, Erap is slowly but strongly going up the poll surveys.

But to the top 4 contenders, to go with Noynoy is a wise decision. Not that I am a fanatic fan of Aquino but analyzing the candidates,  the country needs someone whom we can hold on for a better future.

Erap:

He had already his chance but he made it slip away. How can we be sure it won't happen again. His age and his health, can he still make it? Add more those who question the legality of his second term being a president if ever he got in office? Will people votes will not be in vain?

Villar:

He didn't clear himself yet of the scandals he had been charged  of. This is a black spot that  blemishes his intention to govern us.  Our nation cannot afford for another corrupt government so he should had cleared his name first.   Add more of his grand spending in his campaigns that make us fear he might indulge more in a more questionable deals when he won the election.

Gibo:

He is still new or at least young  in politics, for he is not known to many just until he file his candidacy. Aside from the fact he is still the administration's candidate as far as the political party is concern. People will always remember Gloria whenever his name is being mentioned and people wanted already to be free from her excellency.

Noynoy:

Didn't pass any bill? Done nothing? Not actually. He might not have sponsored a bill but for sure he had taken part in passing every bill. We had seen him go against in every scandalous transaction that this government had been. He was and still is very outspoken against corruption.

But the legacy he inherited from his parents may give us a chance for a better government. Not been involved in corruption is a big factor and should win the people's choice. He has been in the senate for quite sometime and the wrongs he had seen in the past leaders and the stand he showed against those, makes him somewhat ready for the position.

He had experienced the bitter life of martial law, been a son of the president, and of a hero. So if ever, he had this legacy to take care of.

Things to Do Before Election Day

It' s May!
Nine more days to go!
Are you Ready?
Not yet decided?
Well many are now.

Here's some reminders to be checked if already done or undone:

1. CHECK! CHECK! CHECK! Even you're already decided who to vote for, it's no use if you can't find your name on the list. So before the voting day, check your name in the precinct where you will be voting. Log on to COMELEC WEBSITE. and there's a box there where you can get the information needed. Then check the actual location of the polling place as to make sure it has not been changed.

2. HAVE A LIST. This saves you time particularly in this automated election which involves a meter long ballot (lol). Write the names and/or numbers of the candidates you will be voting for before you go to the polling place.

3. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. Nothing will lose if you try shading an oval. Have some sample ballots available for this purpose. Take note that the COMELEC will not give extra official ballots so you cannot afford to make a mistake.

4. BRING THAT BAG. And put some water, biscuits, candies and books to read. You will surely fall in line if you come even on time. In our place, there are only 2 PCOS machine allotted for more than two thousand voters. So be prepared to fall in line and wait. Let our voices be heard.

This is just a public service reminders.
It has been predicted that the outcome of this election is that more will not be able to vote.
Preparation and awareness can lessen the possibility that it will happen.
Go Out and Vote!

Comelec Decision On Parallel Counting

I was watching a while ago the news on SAKSI and I had been dismayed on the COMELEC statements that they will released tomorrow the en banc decision on parallel counting but had made clear that the said decision is unanimous...  not to let it go.

Why? Are the commissioners, already, had list of who are gonna win? How many commissioners in the past elections been involved in fraud? I don't know if I am wrong but I think no one had been prosecuted.

They say that it's hard to cheat with the automated machine. But how can the public be sure that there are no excess PCOS that will also transmit returns even not being used.

To COMELEC:

This is the time that they can show how trustworthy of them
If  discrepancy arises,  so be it.
All they had to do is investigate.
And do what has to be done.

This is also the time to show how reliable they are as what they always say.
If the parallel counting ties with theirs, they are reliable.
If not, well it's just the first. Investigate and correct the errors. We can understand.

But making a firm stand of not allowing parallel counting is just like shouting in the entire world that there is something fishy will gonna happened. Does Gloria had to do with their holding on. It's not far. And if so, we are really so far to have a polling body that will be apolitical. To think, Melo is also a Kapampangeno.

Villaroyo And Gloriaquino?

How can we  blame the people to coined this term.  Many of Pres. Arroyo's big men are now said to be "jumping off the ship". Or really are they?

Or it is another plan. Try to think of this: 22 Lakas shifted to Villar and 20 to Noynoy. Whoever of them won means Pres. Gloria men who are behind and had to do with all her actions are still in the position and likely not to be persecuted. And if ever Gloria won the congress and eventually the speakership, aren't those people will still be behind her?

Just some:

Luis Chavit, a close ally who testified against Estrada that resulted in Erap's ouster is one of the first one who gave his support to Villar.

Who could forget Jocjoc Bolante, an ally of the administration and the alleged mastermind of the P 728M fertilizer scam that allegedly aided the campaign of Arroyo in 2004 and now running under NP in Capiz.

Does anyone remember that Mar Roxas was the trade secretary of Arroyo and under him, the trade department spending on advertisements that earned him "Mr. Palengke" title increased ten times that year just before he run as a senator?

Ralph Recto the author of e-vat now under Noynoy.

Joey Salceda the Arroyo's economic adviser had just make his move to Liberel Party and gave Support to Noynoy saying under him the economy will improve.

ON BEING THE REAL OPPOSITION

Both camps are calling themselves as the real opposition and both are also calling one another the secret candidate of Malacanang.

Accepting former Lakas members who were behind Arroyo's gained power and men behind different administration scandals makes the people think twice.

Seems the real opposition is Joseph Estrada.

Nationalista Party Versus Liberal Party/Who Will Survive?

There is only 25 days more and we will be once again be electing our new president. The heat is on. The game is becoming dirtier as usual. Accusation after accusation. And what is new? People are getting to be "already used" to these.

Here are some:

and more...

And there are still more.

The contest between Aquino and Villar seems going nowhere. Ah...! The voters may feel disgusted.  Some might already been laughing at them. Look at our respected senators now dreaming to be president in the country!

Grow old Sirs! We need something more than that!

In the ongoing dirty politics of both camp, can Joseph Estrada who is slowly but surely climbing up to the poll surveys benefits the battle? What if the people had been turned off of their childish play? We can never know.  Erap might surprise us!

The Latest Poll Surveys/ May 10 Election

As May election is drawing near, the real contenders in the presidential election is coming clearer.  The poll surveys give Noynoy, Villar and Estrada respectively as the top most likely to be in office according to their recent surveys. Thus, we can consider the May 10, 2010 presidential election as now down to a three-way fight race.

As Noynoy is consistent to be on the lead, followed by Villar as second and Estrada in the third, but the trend in the surveys show a big dropped in Villar votes while Estrada is rising up.   Survey last March showed Estrada got only 9% but now is almost 20%. Noynoy's figures change almost just a bit. So we can say that Villar is losing his votes to Estarada. And it will not take much for Estrada to overtake Villar in the April polls.

Since 1992,  elections were won by candidates holding the top two places of the last polls before voting. No third placer went on to win a presidential election. This make the SWS (Social Weather Stations) and Pulse Asia the most credible polling firms in the country. And with just 9% difference with each other, a 5% more drop from Villar and 5% rise for Estrada will make a big difference.

REASON:

Villar is now suffering in the "PEKENG MAHIRAP" and "VILLAROYO" issues. Add more the over-spending T.V. advertisment which makes the people fear that he might  "reimburse" the money spent when he won the office. The C-5 controversy is still hunting him. And this will surely hurt him not only in the surveys ranking but in the very next poll.

GOOD NEWS:

If ever, as the trend indicates, Estrada overtakes Villar in second place, Tita Glo will lose her last option to have a friendly 2010 president. Hurray! In Aquino and Estrada, both are considered ‘toxic’ to her, she will be facing a hostile president. One seeks to prosecute her and the other could do even worse to her and her family. Ohboyohboyohboy.

Midnights Horrors

Election is coming.  And still there are some speculations that she is extending her power beyond the election day.  Her "midnight" appointments in different government post are said to be her design to realize her intentions.  Her plan to appoint the next chief justice is up to now a national debate.  Getting this done then there will be the Arroyo's Supreme Court comprising all appointed by her excellency.  And now also poised in another controversial one,  in appointing the next Sandiganbayan chief.

But do you know that she is not the mother of all "midnights"?  All the other three presidents after Pres. Marcos share the same that resulted some horrors not only to them but unfortunately to us.

PRES. CORY AQUINO
She had been criticized in her "midnight" Executive Order 229 before her power ended.  It's her administration's  land reform program of distributing stocks to the farmers as an option of complying the land reform law without the actual giving of the land.  And the good side? This made Hacienda Luisita still intact.

PRES. FIDEL RAMOS
He has his own share of "midnight" madness. And worse. Still haunting us up to now.  This is the IPP that is part of what we pay in our MERALCO bills.

His "midnight" deals with Independent Power Producer (IPP) before the end of his EMERGENCY POWER granted to him by the congress, obliged us to pay the excess electricity even it is unused or being used by the illegal connectors.  Either way, we're on the loser end.

PRES. JOSEPH ESTRADA
Here he got his "midnight" cabinets.  It was said that he entertained government deals and even signed government contracts with them.  They were said to be his buddies who was with him until morning drinking and playing mah-jong in the palace.

Well he is telling again and again that those were all lies made by those who are greedy in power and stole his position.

So as you see... Pres. Gloria is not alone. Midnight issues is not just once, not twice, but thrice been used.  Her critics will have a hard time stopping this. The ban being imposed in appointing during election period can't be used now for she has a Supreme Court which can creatively interpret the laws in favor to the one who appoints.

On Partylist Issue

Bayan Muna, Liberal Party and other sectors were untiringly knocking the COMELEC in the issue of the party list candidates. They even went up to the Supreme Court to voice up their dismay on what has been happening to the system. And even though already came up with the new guidelines concerning the nominees or seats of each party list, COMELEC still didn't resolve the issues being submitted by different sectors.

Party list is said to be a representation of the
marginalized sector of our society. The ones being neglected, if I can use the word. Ones not being heard.

And it's hard to think how, for example Micky, an incumbent congressman with a grand US mansion aside from being a presidential son, to be a
representative of the tricycle drivers.

Mind you.. there are other presidential kins and allies taking advantage of so many loopholes in the guidelines set for the party list
. They now had their party list.

I bet, all these appeals.. knocking, pleading, calling, and shouting are gonna be in vain. It seemed to be being thought thoroughly. A plan that is well designed.

And the proper forum to resolve the problem is their biggest problem.

SOLUTION:

I had one (hehe). A simple one . Be watchful. Listen. Read. Bookmark this blog (lol!).

We are the maker of our own. Tag those people. Don't forget their back-ups. Delete. And if your through in editing... share.

A continuous reminder for a clean and honest election. Vote wisely!

Why Blog?

Hearing a certain senator was involved in a multi million scam, or a public official benefited on a big project, or president's husband got million dollar deal was like a just ordinary nowadays.

Seems it's an already accepted in our society that no one can ever do something about it.

Reason? Everyone who is position can easily get out of it without being accountable with it.

And why? Only in the Philippines.

You can see how GMA got so lucky, or witty, or whatever you want to call it.

What was in her that she seems so powerful making all luck to be on her side?

Or can we call it luck?

People. She got the right people at the right time and on the right place.

She has the millitary. Good number in congress. Got all people in Supreme court. In COMMELEC. Still more?

She's so wise to get all those to be on her side.

Look at what she has done in our democracy, in our system of governance. See what had she done in our country, in our lives, in our future.

And no one can do something?

Me? At least I'll gonna blog them. My hi-tech way of expression.

CAN WE TRUST THE COMELEC?

Can we trust the COMELEC?
To be an independent institution?
Not to be bothered by other agencies?
by some powerful threat if there is?
For us to have an honest and clean election?

Can we trust the COMELEC?
To presserve integrity?
Not to be tempted by the lust of money?
Or other promises by some not-so-clean polititian?
To proclaim the real winners?
The one chosen by the many?

Can we trust the COMELEC?
Of not to be biased?
That even it's chairman is a provincialmate, a kabalen?
Not to sacrifice the country in favor of gratitude?

And can we trust the COMELEC of not having the list of winners though it's still more than a month yet before the election?

Just a qustion of concern due the public call of fair election.

VILLAR NO.1 IN SURVEY

You heard the news? Yes, Tito Manny did it again. All those T.V. ads costing him hundreds of million turned out to be a huge success. As for now, I hope (lol!). Well we Filipinos are already used to it. Money is a plus factor. But the scary thing is... what's next? (*peace*)

REACTIONS:

Tita Jamby - Were all her bags are packed now? I read once that she'll gonna migrate if tito Manny won. Don't know. 'Know her. But she's consistent huh. Still after the C-5 scandal. Is there nothing new? Ah now with Bro. Mike. Tsk,tsk.

Tito Gibo - Hey dudes, don't worry about him. He doesn't care anymore about those surveys. Who cares if he is always behind others. For the time being, he makes himself busy going around. Campaigning everywhere. Well that's the spirit. My man. " kanila na ang survey, akin ang eleksyon" (theirs is the survey, mine is the election) he once been quoted. ohboyohboyohboy, am I sensing something? Is the counting of the ballots already done? Or it's just me?

Tito Noynoy - Ask him why? or how did it happened? Someone had posted in facebook that he's like Spageting pababa ng bababa (remember the sexbomb song?) while others are pataas ng pataas. Anyway, he had an answer. He is saying that tito Manny ( of course thru his guys) are removing his campaign materials, posters and everything. Aw! Can you hear some sore-loser? Too shallow.

Just more than a month from now. How will we decide? Others are asking, "but do we have a choice"? One thing is sure, we have to face it. It's up to us. We are the one who gonna decide. Be wise. Choose the lesser evil.

And to all the aspirants, whoever gonna make it, please, don't cripple the already ailing country. At least make it slow.

CONDOMS FOR FREE

War against Artificial contraceptives intensifies

Just recently, Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines asked the resignation of Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral for her ongoing campaign of promoting and giving free condoms. Where is it I wonder..

And so.. protest rallies by catholic groups were held in different part of the country asking to stop DOH in purchasing condoms amounting in hundreds of thousand. Well that's a lot of money.

CBCP even asked celebrities not to allow themselves to be used by DOH is spreading immorality by endorsing condom. Condom is immoral, they said. And they will not allow immorality ehem.

But now.. Department of Labor and Employment joins the party. They are planning to give away female condoms to their workers. Wow. And what the hell is that? ooops sorry. Female condoms? Anyone of you had seen one?

Anyway what I am really trying to say here is, what is so wrong with condoms? What I know is it's only purpose is to have a safe sex. I mean not with different partners because there is where immorality comes in. So for me, it's not the use of condom or other contraceptive is bad.

If the church want morality, they are the who should promote and oblige their adherents to be faithful to their husband.. oh ah ok with their wife and the youth should never get involve in premarital sex. It's just like that.

I don't know if wrong. Correct me please. I would like to hear from you. Get involve.

On Automated Poll: Is there enough time?

Junta? Another coup? ohboyohboyohboy..These rumors are now in the air. And lets just hope it will not gonna happen. A government by force , violent or even by another people power will worsen our situation than solve problems.

This coming May election is likely to be their instrument. What could happen if problems arises during election. Remember what we experience during the registration of voters?

Tests show that a voter can consume up to 8 minutes voting. That is if all things are already ready especially the voter. What if if up to that minute, the voter is still contemplating who's who will he gonna vote? Dude, can they accommodate all us voters?

Oh no! Were all the teachers are all aware of the new approach? What will they do if there's a malfunction of the hardware?

And try to think of this.. even though we can always watch the info drive "bilog na may hugis itlog", sure thing is there will be still question ask when election time comes. And that will still add to their voting time.

Hey guys out there... all I can say is be early on that they. Come early. Vote early. And get out of there early!

First Time Blogger Notes:

From now on.. there will be some changes in our discussion. Due to the insisiting demands of our readers, we will use this language. Readers around the net emailed me asking if I can post in English because their friends are so fond of reading our articles but they had a hard time reading in Filipino.

And that's it. Another reason is because my blog had been denied three twice (huhu) by google adsense because they do not support our language and I want us to be heard by our kababayans (kinapos na) in Visayas and Mindanao having difficult time in reading Tagalog.

Whew! Just bear with me with this. We can do it. Let's do it!

Supreme Court defends It's Ruling

Huwag sanang sirain.

Ewan ko kung ako ay mali. Baka me maganda kang ideya e ipamahagi mo naman. Kaya nga me lalagyan ng komento dyan. I-klik mo na lang.

Presidential Appointee

May natuwa. Nainis. Nayamot. Na highblood. Me OA na.

Good News:

Me piesta yata dun? Me ZtE pa.. ano pa ba?
